The Kid’s Got Moxie

On January 28th, we gave birth to one sweet and awesome lil’ baby; a girl named Moxie Jain Bergan.

People kept asking me where we came up with the name. Well, we had a baby name book with something like 100,000 different names in it. In the front, before the alphabetized list, there are all these inspirational little sections like “50′s names” or “redneck names” or “popular automobile manufacturers” with girl and boy names below like “Bobby” or “Peaches” or “Mercedes”. Ryan wasn’t a fan of Peaches, unfortunately, but while we were glazing over them we hit one category titled “Mob Names”. Under the boys side, we found names like “Freddie” and “Vito” and on the girls side, the very first one, was “Moxie”. I voiced it to Ryan and he responded in an approving way, so I jotted it down on our list of prospects. Over the next few days, after letting it set, we both revisited and almost instantly agreed and decided that this was for sure going to be the girl name, if it was in fact, a girl.

I’m extremely glad we decided not to find out the sex. To me, it took what was already a big surprise and added a new dimension to the whole event. Immediately after she came out, Ryan and the midwife looked at me with baited breath, because when they placed her on my chest, they didn’t know what the sex was. The whole thing happened so quickly, no one had a chance to peek. With an excited and joyful look, I exclaimed “I dont know!!!” At that moment, I could not have cared less. I was holding my baby, who looked up at me with HUGE  blue eyes, and the world kind of stopped. My midwife, Amy said “Well, peel open the legs!” and I’m like “Oh yeah! Duh!” I yelled “It’s a girl!!” Ryan and I couldn’t have been happier than to get to use the name we had been sitting on for months.

So far, her name fits. When I took her to the pediatrician the nurse asked the doc “What does Moxie mean?” and he goes “It means balls! You know, “the kids got Moxie”" It was awesome. He was right. She’s got a lotta noive that Moxie!

These photo’s were taken from somewhere around her 1st week to 3 1/2 months of life. We have toooooons of photos and vids via iphone that were taken, but these are the more fancy ones. They are all special to me of course, but I figured I’d share to show what I’ve been up to. She’s kinda my everything, this kid. It’s been a difficult yet very worthwhile endeavor, learning how to take care of a baby, and I’m so glad I have this one. This post has been a long time coming, I know, but as you can see, I’ve been a bit tied up.

Nursery Time!

So, I’m supposed to have a baby any day now, but for some reason the lil guy or girl doesn’t seem to want to come out. I’ve been meaning to take photos of the nursery for a while now. So, today instead of sulking around and waiting, I finally got up to tackle this task. Sorry this is so late everyone, but don’t worry it’s totally worth it!

I love this nursery more that the entire house right now. It makes me super comfy every time I step foot in it. I feel like there is so much personality. This is in part, due to some of the wonderful pieces people bought or created for the baby. I feel like without even knowing it, every person who pitched in on something for this space, were working secretly with every other person to make sure it came out so perfectly. Great job everyone! haha! You guys sooo get me!

Du and Bao’s Sneak Peek!

Du and Bao did a courthouse wedding earlier this year. I have a love for courthouse weddings because I myself, had one with my husband. I love the spontaneity of them, not to mention saving all that dough! They needed some wedding photos, so I was really excited when we set it up.  I knew they’d be great! They are a fun couple and you can definitely see the connection.

 Best wishes you guys!

Deadman’s Panorama

This was taken near the border of Oregon and Idaho, when Ryan and I moved to Texas from Washington last year. This is my favorite view from the entire trip. Its a road referred to as “Deadman Pass”. It’s called that, because around 1895 there was a number of accidents and deaths, some of which were due to Indian attacks. Fun! This photo was taken about halfway up the pass, the view is even better at the top, but unfortunately, when you’re going up the hill, you don’t get access to that view. Of course, as you can see, its still pretty amazing even at the halfway point.

The reason its one of my favorites, is because it was just as beautiful seeing the second time as it was the first. See, the first time I saw this view, I was by myself and moving to Seattle to pursue a job. You get to see a lot of gorgeous landscapes on the journey, (I was also a fan of Colorado). The reason this view is one of my favorites is purely because when you’re traveling north on 84, it is one of the the biggest visual surprises you’ll EVER see.

Let me paint a picture for you. You’re driving out of Idaho going north on 84. You’re driving on a straight road up this gradual incline with heavy woods on both sides. The next thing you know, you turn a long corner with a large hill to your right, when you simultaneously reach the edge of the hill and the edge of the curve, there it is. This mix of soft blue skies, a pastel pink and purple haze over the horizon line, and a mix of lush green and gold farmlands scattered to the edge of tan, navy shadowed hills. It’s pretty breathtaking, especially when you don’t expect it.

When I found this image the other day, I remembered how symbolic it felt at the time, while driving back up it on the way back to Texas. The first time, my journey was full of unknowns and surprises. I had no idea what to expect and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. On the way back, I knew what to expect, only this time I had more experience and knowledge behind my journey. I also had a new husband. I was so glad I got to show it to him.
