Another beautiful little girl is a new member of our lovely world. This birth was a long one. Mama labored for 3 straight days in hopes of a birthing center birth. That's the thing about birth though; you NEVER know what to expect. I think that is the aspect that makes every birth story always so interesting and beautiful. Every birth is a journey. While laboring, if things aren't going the way you wanted as a Mother, you just go with it. You don't have a choice. The birth you want, becomes the birth you get. Your only concern is that healthy little bundle at the end.
By the time I got to the hospital, I was holding back tears as I walked in the room. I felt bad for mama for not getting the birth she envisioned, but so so relieved because she was smiling again. She was reset, and she had a little rest. I breathed a small sigh of relief. I never expected to care as much for my clients as I do, but it's kind of what happens when they let you into a truly intimate moment in their lives. It's inevitable that you have concerns.
The rest of the birth went about as smoothly as it possibly could. Mom and Dad prayed. Dad read passages to mom as the sun set. It was full of calm moments until delivery. Delivery went smoothly too! No complications. That's always a great thing to see and hear. Little Ellesa laid on mama's chest and the whole family just hugged together in awe of how beautiful she was. The happy ending made up for those 3 days of labor, I'm sure of it. When it's all said and done, that Oxytocin takes over and you forget all the bad. You see that little face and hear those cries, and any pain before that moment is washed away.
I'm thrilled for this new family. Their wonderful journey is only beginning and I couldn't be more excited for them.
