I recently may have witnessed the most calm and easy birth ever. On July 3rd, at 3:54 am, little Sebastian Mateo Colunga quickly and gracefully, entered this world. I was actually dreaming about this birth when I got the text. It was the weirdest thing ever, especially considering it was over two weeks before the due date. In my dream, my throat was a little sore and I was thinking "I'd better not be getting sick, I got a birth I gotta get to!" Low and behold, I awaken to a txt of "3-4 minutes apart and baby on way" It was so surreal.
By the time I got there, mama was about 3 contractions away from having baby. I was so glad I made it in the nick of time. I live about 45 minutes away, so that paired with getting out of bed and getting dressed and ready made it about an hour's journey. That's a completely reasonable amount of time to get to most births, or most average births. This one was most certainly, a speedy delivery. From the time I entered the front door, walked to the bedroom, pulled out my camera and got my light settings right, the baby was crowning! I got lucky and nailed it right before that. Whew!
I love love love the family I photographed! They are all so supportive of each other and so loving. I was super glad the kids were there the whole time, helping and photographing. It was such a unified occasion. Mommy had prepared the little ones well. They were so helpful and excited. Once Sebastian was born, they all gently passed him around to hold. Once mommy was ready, they did an herbal bath, which yielded some beautiful shots and such sweet moments with mommy and baby. It was intimate, natural, and beautiful. I left feeling like a distant member of the family. That's what I love so much about birth; The intimate and unplanned aspects. I was so honored they trusted me to do my job and be a part of this wonderful experience.
Welcome to the world, Sebastion! You're getting a great start with such an amazing family!
